Lastok Memorial Estate

Lastok, or Sukhoshchina, is the third residence of Yakub Kolas's parents. Mikhail Mitskevich moved there from the Nikolaev forest Komora on November 1, 1885 and lived until April 1890. Lastok is located 10 km from Nikolaevshchina, 4 km from the village of Sverinovo, the former dungeon of the nobility. The estate is surrounded by spruce forest.

There used to be two huts in Lastok: the family of Yakub Kolas's parents lived in the new one, and the workers who made shingles lived in the old one.

The new hut was built in 1885 from spruce timber in a flat corner, on a stone foundation, covered with shingles. Buildings and a garden in Lastok were enclosed by a fence, a kitchen garden and a pasture — by poles.

The hut and the threshing floor have survived to this day. They are witnesses of the life of the Mickiewicz family.

The formation of a person begins at an early age. Later, layer after layer, as on a rod, worldview, experience, wisdom are superimposed. That which is laid down in childhood, in this short segment of the life path, will later be the engine in the actions of the individual, views, deeds. The boy with the Divine Spark — Kostus — from an early age saw the unusual, something that was not given to feel and see to others. These impressions were reflected in many works of the songwriter, they excited his heart, were the reason for the creation of wonderful images.

Among all the memorial estates Lastok is the most valuable. While the buildings in Akinchitsy, Albut, Smolnya were restored according to archival materials, Lastok retained its original appearance with minor restoration changes. The hut and the threshing floor, built in 1885, have survived to this day.

In his autobiography, in his memoirs, in the poem "New Land", the poet describes Lastok.

In 1997, 2 exposition rooms were opened in Lastok. Copies of the manuscripts of the poem, its editions of different years, letters, documents, photographs, products of folk craftsmen of the Stolbtsy region, works of Belarusian artists are exhibited.

Lastok Manor and surroundings is not only a historical and memorial monument, but also a unique monument of nature. Here, according to the Academy of Sciences of Belarus, there are fossils of the Neogene Paleo-Neman and anthropogenic Pra-Neman. The forests here are better preserved than in the surrounding areas. Many varieties of plants grow here, including those listed in the Red Book.
